Four steps to moving in

Usually only a few days pass between your first message and getting your key.

  1. Find a room

    Browse the available rooms in Bern and find the one that suits you.

    On the website

    The home page shows every available room with photos, price and move-in date. Filter by neighbourhood or budget and send us an enquiry.

    By email or phone

    Write to info@zimmer-in-bern.ch or call 0800 24 77 24. Tell us your budget and preferred move-in date straight away.

    Tip: Enquire early. Popular rooms in Bern are often taken quickly.

  2. View it

    We want to get to know you, and you should know what to expect. That is why a viewing is always part of the process.

    In person

    We arrange an appointment. You see the room, kitchen and bathroom and can ask all your questions on the spot.

    By video call

    Not living in the region yet? We will show you the room live on video.

  3. Sign

    We keep the paperwork to a minimum.

    What you need

    A photo or scan of your valid ID (Swiss ID card, passport or foreign residence permit). No debt register extract, no proof of income.

    Rental contract

    You receive the contract digitally. Once it is signed and back with us, the room is reserved for you. You can also use the contract to register officially in Bern.

    Payment

    You transfer the first month’s rent and the deposit (one month’s rent). Cash payment is also possible. Then you receive the key.

  4. Move in

    Contract signed, everything paid? Welcome to your new shared flat!

    Key handover

    Depending on the property, we hand over the key in person, or you collect it from a key safe – then you can move in in the evening or at the weekend too.

    Your room

    The room is freshly cleaned. You will find fresh bed linen and labelled storage space in the kitchen and bathroom.

    And when you move out

    Stay as long as it suits you. Giving notice is as easy as moving in.

    Notice period

    14 or 30 days depending on your contract, to the middle or end of a month. The exact terms are in your contract.

    Giving notice

    Send an email to info@zimmer-in-bern.ch or a registered letter. We confirm your notice in writing.

    Please note: Notice cannot be given between 1 December and 15 January. In that case, the tenancy ends on 15 January.
